Retiring Co-Head of UK Financial List Joins P.R.I.M.E. Finance

Sir William Blair

Sir William Blair appointed to P.R.I.M.E. Finance’s Advisory Board and its Panel of Experts

The P.R.I.M.E. Finance Foundation, The Hague-based, charitable non-profit that oversees its Panel of Recognized International Market Experts in Finance, proudly announces the appointment of Professor Sir William Blair to its Advisory Board and to its 150-strong Panel of Experts.

Sir William is a former High Court and Financial List Judge for England and Wales, and is the President of the Board of Appeal of the European Supervisory Authorities, which is the framework for financial supervision in the European Union. He was the Judge in Charge of the Commercial Court in London from 2016 to 2017. He is a member of London’s Financial Markets Law Committee, as well as the Chair of the Monetary Law Committee of the International Law Association, which brings together leading professionals in the financial law field.

Sir William has written widely in the field of financial law, most recently co-editing Banks and Financial Crime published by the Oxford University Press in 2017.

He became Professor of Financial Law and Ethics at Queen Mary University of London in 2017.  He also holds Visiting Professorships at the London School of Economics (LSE), Peking University (PKU) and East China University of Political Science and Law (ECUPL).

He graduated from Oxford University and practised at the English Bar, where he specialised in the law of domestic and international banking and finance. He was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1994, Chairman of the Commercial Bar Association between 2003 and 2005, and served as Chairman of the Qatar Financial Centre Regulatory Tribunal until March 2011.

He became an associate member of leading London barristers’ chambers 3 Verulam Buildings in December 2017.

Regarding Sir William’s appointments, Professor Jeffrey Golden, Chairman of the P.R.I.M.E. Finance Foundation, said: “We are thrilled that, following a highly successful career on the bench, Bill is prepared to put that experience to work in furtherance of the objectives that animate P.R.I.M.E. Finance. A jurist, a specialist practitioner and an academic may each have something to contribute to successful outcomes when financial market dispute resolution is sought. But it is a very rare thing to find one individual capable of making the contribution of all three. Sir William Blair is just such an individual. His involvement in the project considerably enhances our offering, and we are certain to benefit from it.”
